National and Kapodistrian
University of Athens (NKUA) is one of the oldest and most prominent public
research universities in Europe and the leading higher-education institution in
Greece. Founded in 1837, shortly after the establishment of the modern Greek
state, it was the first university in Greece as well as in the Balkan Peninsula
and the Eastern Mediterranean region. Today NKUA is among the largest
universities in Europe, with more than 66,000 students across undergraduate,
postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, supported by a large academic and
research staff. The university is organized into multiple Schools and over 40
academic departments, covering a wide spectrum of disciplines including
humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, law, economics,
education, and physical education. The institution operates several
campuses and facilities throughout the Athens metropolitan area. NKUA is widely
recognized for its strong research activity, international collaborations, and

The E-Learning Programme
of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) has been operating
continuously since 2001, constituting the first and longest-running e-learning
programme of a Higher Education Institution in Greece. Over more than two
decades, the Programme has developed into a large-scale digital education
ecosystem that systematically connects academic knowledge, applied professional
skills and emerging labour-market needs, in alignment with European lifelong
learning and innovation priorities. The Programme currently offers
more than 700 courses and certification programmes, delivered by over 670
senior academics and experts, across more than 40 thematic domains, reaching
over 200,000 registered learners and more than 190,000 graduates. Teaching is
delivered through a robust digital platform aligned with international
distance-learning standards and enriched with scenario-based learning, applied
case studies, simulations and VR-supported educational methods
